Transportation Project Updates: Week of March 17, 2025
2024-25 Level Up Program
- March 17, 2025 – Level Up began on Welch street on the 14th and was completed today. The next street segments on the list include a section on West 1st Street, Elliott Street, Washburn Street, West 8th Street, West 3rd Street, East Second Street, Ferguson Street, Symes Street, East 5th Street, Fenwick Drive, West 5th Street, Prather Street, and Gilmore Street.
Chandler Road and County Road 366 (New Project)
- Project Overview: This project will construct a traffic signal at the intersection of Chandler Road and County Road 366. This is an intersection with known safety issues. Most recently, in Fall 2024, two individuals perished in a collision with a dump truck. Williamson County submitted the project for funding from TXDOT’s Highway Safety Improvement Program. The City will pursue alternative funding sources should TXDOT decline to fund the signal.
- Funding: $120,000 for design, $1 Million for construction.

- Project Updates:
- February 12, 2025 - No updates. We are still waiting on notification of project selection or denial for TXDOT's 2025 HSIP Program.
- December 3, 2024 – Williamson County conducted a signal warrant study at this intersection. The County submitted the project to TXDOT for Highway Safety Improvement Program funding in cooperation with the City following 2 fatalities and 4-5 major accidents. Will be notified of selection in Spring. HSIP projects generally cover 90% of construction costs. The cost for design would be left to the City or County to pay.
TH Johnson Drive, Bill Pickett Trail, West Lake Drive
- March 13, 2025 – At the City Council Meeting, a contract with Texas Road was approved for $2,658,771.54. This contract includes two alternatives. One is for the removal of the Cycle Track on Mallard Lane from North Drive to Carlos G Parker. The Second is for base repair on sections of 2nd Street and 4th Street where the road base is failing. The TH Johnson Lake, and Bill Pickett maintenance bid totaled $2,325,646.48 with the Mallard Lane Cycle Track removal totaling $237,721.26 and the 2nd and 4th street road base repairs totaling $95,403.80.
Mallard Lane
- March 13, 2025 – At the City Council Meeting, a contract with Texas Road was approved for Street Maintenance projects across the City. The contract includes $237,721,26 for the removal of the Cycle Track on Mallard Lane from North Drive to Carlos G Parker. The section of street will receive a seal coat and restriping to add shoulders for parking.
MLK Sidewalk
- March 18, 2025 - 60% designs will be submitted to TXDOT for review on March 19.
FM 3349 Shared Use Path (New Project)
- Project Overview: Every year, TXDOT opens grant applications for Transportation Alternatives projects. These generally include sidewalks and shared use paths. TXDOT is already planning a shared use path down 973 from the loop all the way to Manor. Williamson County has applied for the grant to add a shared use path on Samsung Highway and down FM 3349 south to FM 1660. Our proposed project to TXDOT would connect to Williamson County’s project at the intersection of Samsung Highway and FM 3349 and extend the shared use path to Highway 79.

- February 21, 2025 – Preliminary grant application submitted by Langford. TXDOT will notify the city if they want us to submit the full grant application in April.
- February 13, 2025 – The City Council approved a grant application to TXDOT for the FM 3349 shared use path. The total project cost is estimated at just under $3 Million. If awarded, our local match would come to $583,200.
Cross-Town Connector (New Project)
- Project Overview: In 2024, the City applied for a TXDOT Transportation Alternatives grant for a cross-town sidewalk project that would add a sidewalk down MLK from Main Street to Dolan, down Booth Street, down Frank Street, up Robinson Street, up Dolan Street, and along E 5th street, connecting those streets to Robinson Park and to the Hike and Bike trail. It would also replace the hike and bike trail from 5th street to Old Thorndale Road. The project was not awarded by TXDOT. The City funded a portion of the project along MLK and Robinson Street. The remainder of the project is included in the 2025 grant application for the Transportation Alternatives program.
