Wellness/Recreation Center Feasibility StudyRecreation Center Banner

The need for an indoor recreation facility has been an identified community since 2004 within the parks and recreation master plan. In 2010, the City of Taylor pursued a bond election to construct a recreation facility which failed. The need for this type of facility was once again identified by the community during the 2016 Parks Master Plan development.

The purpose of the Feasibility Study is to understand the demographics of the community and their current participation in recreational activities, conduct stakeholder interviews and surveys, complete a needs assessment, develop preliminary cost estimates for construction and operation, recommend funding opportunities, and produce concept floorplans. The completion of the study will not guarantee the future construction of a wellness and recreation center but will simply provide the City necessary information and documentation to see if such a facility is needed and possible.

Estimated Timeline

  • Requests for Qualifications (RFQ) opened March 2024
  • RFQ awarded to Barker Rinker Seacat (BRS) Architecture in July 2024
  • Anticipated project start of August 2024
  • Study to take approximately 8 months with a possible completion date of April 2025

Heritage Square Splash Pad

The Heritage Square Splashpad is currently undergoing some changes and our visitors can soon get back to enjoying cooling off during the hot summer days ahead of us.

Reconstruction has begun and there are some exciting changes and upgrades ahead. To help stabilize our shifting Blackland soil, the contractor will be injecting the soil with chemicals that will help with shifting - which means no more ponding around the splashpad making it safer for our visitors. The chemicals are safe, non-toxic, and water-soluble.

There will be 360-degree illuminating LED light fixtures and a new spray play splash deck that will be slip-resistant.

The deck and sidewalk around the splashpad will also be replaced to reduce trip hazards throughout the area.

This project has been completed and the splash pad reopened on June 6, 2024.

New Pickleball Court Addition

As of June 6th, construction has begun on the addition of three lit pickleball courts due south of the existing pickleball courts in Murphy Park. Due to the proximity to construction the existing pickleball courts will be closed for an estimated 3-4 weeks. The entire project is estimated to be completed in 6-7 weeks.

This project was completed in August 2024.
