City Manager Message

I was pleased to be part of the official ribbon cutting for the Lone Star Circle of Care (LSCC) at the newly revitalized West End Building on Friday, Feb. 25. I am also proud that the City of Taylor played a part in helping the revitalization of this historic building come to fruition.
In 2019, Council approved a 380 Agreement with Lone Star Circle of Care to revitalize the building. As part of the revitalization, the building will be used for Project Headwaters.
This program will offer medical, health, and social services for residents regardless of their financial circumstances or health insurance status. The City also donated land along Doak Street that LSCC will use for an urban garden. The revitalization of the building and Project Headwaters will be an incredible asset to the residents of Taylor.

Remember to Spring Forward and Change Your Smoke Alarm Batteries

Daylight Saving Time begins at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 13. Don't forget to spring your clocks forward!

And as a reminder, when you change your clock you should also change the batteries in your home's smoke alarms.

The National Fire Protection Association has provided information to help make sure all smoke alarms have working batteries, accounting for the multiple types of smoke alarms on the market and their varying battery requirements:

  • Smoke alarms with non-replaceable 10-year batteries are designed to remain effective for up to 10 years. If the alarm chirps, warning that the battery is low, replace the entire smoke alarm right away.
  • Smoke alarms with any other type of battery need a new battery at least once a year. If that alarm chirps, warning the battery is low, replace the battery right away.
  • When replacing a battery, follow manufacturer’s list of batteries on the back of the alarm or manufacturer’s instructions. Manufacturer’s instructions are specific to the batteries (brand and model) that must be used. The smoke alarm may not work properly if a different kind of battery is used.
If you need any assistance in changing the batteries in your smoke alarm or if your home does not have a smoke alarm, please contact the Taylor Fire Department for assistance at 512-352-6992.

Finance Department Awarded Certificate of Achievement

Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to City of Taylor for its annual comprehensive financial report for the fiscal year ended September 30, 2020. The report has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

City of Taylor Wastewater Averaging

As a reminder, the City of Taylor conducts its annual sewer averaging from late November through March. The months that are used are typically the lowest consumption months of the year. These three months are averaged to get the sewer rates for the next 12 months.
Prior to the averaging period you are advised to repair any leaky faucets or running toilets and any other water leaks. This will avoid a high usage month during the averaging period and help to keep your sewer rate down.
