Prescription Drug Take Back Event

drug take back

The Taylor Police Department will again participate in the United States Drug Enforcement Administration’s Drug Take Back Event. The event will take place from10 am - 2 pm on Saturday, April 29th at City Hall (400 Porter Street.)  The National Prescription Drug Take-Back addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Many Americans are not aware that medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are at alarming rates, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs.

Studies show that many abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. In addition, many Americans do not know how to properly dispose of their unused medicine, often flushing them down the toilet or throwing them away – both potential safety and health hazards.

The Taylor Police Department will be on hand at City Hall to assist citizens that wish to participate in the program. As a reminder, no “sharps,” such as needles will be accepted. Citizens are encouraged to bring any prescription drugs that are outdated or no longer needed for drop off. There will be no questions asked, and citizens are not asked to identify themselves in order to participate in the program.
