Amy Young Barrier Removal Program


The City of Taylor participates in the Amy Young Barrier Removal (AYBR) program through the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs. This program allows the City to provide grants of up to $20,000 for accessibility improvements and the rehabilitation of substandard sections of houses for low-to-moderate income persons.

Funds can be used for items such as addition of handrails and ramps, widening of doors, adjusting countertops and cabinets to appropriate heights, installation of buzzing or flashing devices for persons with visual or hearing impairments, and installation of accessible showers, toilets and sinks. At least 75 percent of each home's total grant is to be used for barrier removal.

Who Qualifies?

  • Owner and occupant of the home need assistance
  • At least 1 member of the household meets the definition of a Person with Disabilities (include mobility-impaired elderly)
  • The home is located within the city limits of Taylor
  • Owner is not delinquent on property taxes
  • Household income is 80% Area Median Family Income
